Our U11s teams performed admirably at the 2021 Camden and Islington Development Cup on Saturday the 26th of June. With three squads present at the tournament, our boys were placed in Groups A, B and C.
The ball started rolling at 8.40am and by 11am all group stage matches were played. Our A-team moved on to the CUP rounds after finishing first in group A, winning four out of the five matches played – with 9 goals scored and 0 goals conceded. Teams B and C advanced to the PLATE brackets.
In the semi-finals of the plate, both our B and C teams faced each other and in a tight match team C was the one coming out with the victory.
With team C advancing to the 3rd and 4th placing match, our boys managed to win in a dramatic penalty shootout after converting all their penalties and seeing their opponents miss the last penalty of the round.
In the Plate’s Final, Team C pulled off the best performance of the tournament with a convincing 3-0 victory to bring yet another trophy to our club’s cabinet.
In the CUP bracket, our A-team advanced to the quarter-finals being one of the favourites, after cruising through the group stage, and finishing first in group A.
In a match where our boys were simply unable to convert the many chances presented, the victory came through penalties after scoring the first two penalty shots while the opposing team missed both their first penalties, one of those saved by our goalkeeper.
In the semi-finals, our team faced another title contender – ERG, and in a very close game where both teams had chances to score, the game ended up going to penalties too. Once again, the Sintra team shot first but the ball stopped on the post while ERG converted their first penalty. The 2nd penalty was converted by our A-team and our goalkeeper made a magnificent save to prevent ERG from scoring, meaning the teams are now even. Unfortunately, ERG’s goalkeeper managed to save the final penalty of Sintra’s round and ERG ended up converting their last penalty and advance to the final. Eventually, ERG claimed victory in the final, winning the tournament. #congratulations
In the final match of the tournament for our A team, our boys faced WW. In a match that seemed completely under our team’s control, our A team faced adversity conceding in the later stages of the match on a counter-attack completely against the tide of the game thus far. This was the first goal conceded by our team in the entire tournament and one would think our boys had a serious problem to solve, with not much time left on the clock.
Fortunately, the response was swift and after a quick equaliser, our A-team managed to score a 2nd goal less than a minute before the end of regular time which guaranteed 3rd place in the tournament’s CUP bracket for our As.
