About Sintra AFA

We are a grassroots football club embedded within the Barnet community. Our coaching programme was built to create the best environment for our players to develop and achieve their full potential.

Club’s Philosophy

To develop our players so that they achieve to play the game without fear, with a positive and inclusive mindset, in accordance with the guidelines provided by the FA’s Respect Policy.

Style of Play

An attacking style based on a ‘pass and move’ football approach. Off the ball, emphasis on maintaining high pressure to retrieve the possession of the ball as close to the opposition’s box as possible.

Teaching Methods

As much collective as individual ball work. Always with the football involved throughout the sessions. Players are encouraged to experience all positions and to be comfortable with the ball.

Our football club has its teams competing in several age groups, from U7s to U14s. All our teams compete on Sunday League matches at the Harrow Youth Football League (HYFL) and Soccer Combination. Matches for this league are played against clubs located from North East to North West London, with each club hosting its home matches at their home grounds or community football pitches. The vast majority of the matches are played on grass-based surfaces. All teams from the U12s age groups and above also get the chance to compete on the League Cup – organised by the HYFL.

Additionally, some of our most developed teams also compete at Camden and Islington Football League, a central London league hosted at Market Road Pitches near Caledonian Rd Station. All matches are played on these pitches, which are turf based pitches. All teams from the U12s age groups and above also get the chance to compete on the League Cup – organised by the CIYL.

All our teams practice twice a week, with a mid-week session – Wednesday, after school hours – and a Saturday morning session.

All our coaching staff members are FA qualified, with a minimum of a FA Level 1 in Coaching Football. Also, all coaches attend seasonal First aid and Children Safeguarding courses delivered by the FA. Additionally, our club conducts individual Criminal Record Check (CRC/DBS) of all coaches, every season. Most of our coaches have many years of coaching and playing experience in the UK and abroad, with several having academy level experience.

Our club is based within the Finchley area where we conduct most of our sessions throughout the year. Glebelands is our venue for all Saturday morning sessions. This is also the venue where we host our midweek sessions during the summertime. During the wintertime, we move to Power League Mill Hill for our midweek sessions.

Home matches are played at Muswell Hill Playing Fields, on the opposite side of the North Circular from Glebelands.
